Salary Movement survey finds Australians set to receive healthier pay packets in 2012, and earn more than the rest of the world

Hay Group’s Australian Salary Movement Index reveals the key trends affecting Australian pay packets

Sydney – 9 July 2012 – Many Australian workers can expect a pay rise in the coming 12 months, especially those employed in the resources sector in regional areas, according to Hay Group’s 2012 Australian Salary Movement Index (ASMI) Report released today.

Some of the factors influencing this increase in Australian salaries include the rising cost of living pressures due to the strength of the Australian dollar, a gradual tightening of the employment market, critical skill shortages in technical roles and significant growth in the resources sectors.

Looking at the overall Australian context, the global management consulting firm Hay Group has a positive outlook for the Australian worker with the firm forecasting salary adjustments of 4 per cent in Fixed Annual Reward for all industry sectors in Australia in 2012, (and 6.3 per cent for the Resource sector) ahead of the US, UK and NZ (all predicting 3 per cent rise) across all levels in the market.
