Breafast seminar on December 3, 2009 - Going beyond competencies

Print and run

Preparing for the War for Talent in the new economy

As the pioneer of the competency approach to HR management, Hay Group has worked closely with Canadian government departments and agencies to identify and define the leadership competency framework that is currently used to help assess candidates for the executive cadre. However, our recent research into effective leadership suggests that competencies are only one of several important elements that need to be considered when transitioning people into leadership roles.

Beyond Competencies

Modern HR practices have seen competency-based models take centre stage in the identification, selection and development of leaders. Ongoing Hay Group research in the area of leadership development has uncovered other important dimensions of successful leaders that are essential to both individuals and organizations alike as we prepare for the leadership challenges that will accompany the economic recovery. In this upcoming Hay Group complimentary breakfast seminar, you will learn how we have worked with clients to help them conceptualize a leadership development program that works best for them.

Topics will include a discussion on:

  • leadership potential
  • growth factors derailers

We will then look at ways in which these concepts can be used to support core HR functions such as:

  • talent management
  • succession planning
  • learning and development
  • performance management.

You will also learn how the early identification of leadership potential translates to improved efficiencies in selection processes and increases the likelihood of "best fit." The presentation will be based on Hay Group thought leadership with a spotlight on how it has been successfully applied in several government departments, agencies and Crown Corporations.
