Hay Group's leadership styles and organizational climate accreditation program allows you to deliver results in an affordable way.
Getting the most from your people.
Hay Group has studied the issue of motivation for more than 40 years, and we know that the most effective way to improve productivity is to create a workplace climate that encourages workers to perform at their best; to give discretionary effort, not just enough to get by. The difference between a demotivating climate and one that energizes workers can be as much as 30 per cent more in profit. These results come from higher revenues, lower costs and improved customer loyalty. Our own work across industry lines - with consumer products, financial services, manufacturing and healthcare organizations - demonstrates this time and again.
Creating the type of climate that energizes employees.
Some organizations do better than others in creating positive working climates. Even within organizations, Hay Group has found wide variation in the climates experienced by different work groups. In one corner of the building people might be floundering, confused by conflicting priorities and starved for performance feedback, while others understand their priorities, have the authority to get the job done and know where they stand. This is even the case when different groups are faced with the same resource constraints, have the same mission and work under the same pressures.
So what differentiates one group from the other? Leadership.
You can help managers develop and use the leadership styles that have the biggest impact on climate and performance. The ‘get it done now’ pacesetting style gets results but often leaves people feeling unfulfilled, frustrated and undeveloped. The authoritative style provides the big picture, clear standards and valuable feedback. The ‘people first’ affiliative style makes people feel good but, by itself, does not promote performance. The democratic style promotes involvement and commitment. Effective leaders draw on six key leadership styles - in the right situations, with the right people, at the right time.
